The Cappa

Borgo Sette Torri between past, present and future. The roots that become wings.

A long strip of land wedged between the Apennines and the Adriatic, firmly anchored on two sides to the mainland, but extending at its end like an arm pointing towards the eastern Mediterranean, Apulia has played, since the most remote antiquity, an essential role intermediary between Greece, Rome and the Middle Eastern lands that saw the birth of the first Christianity. This contact materialized through the use of its natural ports which had already ensured its primordial relationship with the Etruscan and Greek world. And right in Puglia, latitude 41 08'27"N 16 36'49"E, there is an ancient village immersed in a sea of fertile olive groves still delimited by simple dry stone walls. This is the ancient Borgo delle Sette Torri di San Martino, in the Giovinazzo countryside, at a height of 135 m above sea level. The origins of the village are lost in the mists of time. Located on the route that took ancient travelers from the ancient Roman Via Minucia towards the coastal road and towards the towns of Natiolum (Giovinazzo) and Melpa (Molfetta), it must have been the site of a peasant vicus, which evolved over the years with defense towers and rooms for use as stables, then transformed into residential villas of the rich families of Molfetta, protagonists of the first industrialization of the early 1900s. The pearl set in the village of the Sette Torri is Villa Regia Domus, an elegant location, meticulously restored in its original forms, in the frescoes of its vaults , in the recovery of its ancient plants. Here, on this threshold between East and West, between earth, sky and sea, the entrepreneur Francesco De Gennaro, author of the recovery work of the ancient villa, has started a series of philanthropic and cultural events, which range from fundraising to food cancer research, art exhibitions, concerts, plays and presentations of valuable books. A desire to restore beauty to a land, that of Puglia, internationally synonymous with elegance and natural refinement.
